“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven
Matthew 5:14When a tinsmith or candlemaker makes a lamp or candle, they know in advance the purpose for which that lamp or candle was created. It was created to provide light in the darkness. And so it is with you. We are told in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” You were created to provide light in this dark and dying world. You provide this light by doing good deeds which God prepared in advance for you to do, so that others will see your good deeds and glorify God in heaven. A very important point here is that God gets all the glory and not you. Just like all other created things, like a lamp, a candle or in my case a pencil, we are merely a vessel, created to serve our Heavenly Father. When we perform a good deed we should not get all puffed up and prideful in an attempt to steal God’s glory. God will not share His glory with anyone. When I first started writing poetry, songs and devotionals, I enjoyed the praise that came from people. As time went on and I continued to grow, I learned/was taught, that it is much better to receive God’s praise than the praise of men. My enjoyment now comes from just the act of sensing God’s presence while writing a devotional. Once it is written and shared with others, it is then up to God as to how He will use it, as I’m off preparing for and writing the next song, poem or devotional. If someone should complement me on a particular song, poem or devotional, I simply say, “To God be all honor praise and glory”. Before I excepted Christ into my heart, I was very prideful, arrogant and conceded. Over the years however, God has made me more of a humble servant by transforming me more into the image of Jesus, the ultimate humble servant. I still have a long way to go I might add. It is now my most sincere heartfelt desire, to become just like Him. To please him is what has motivated me after all these years to continue and not tire of doing good works, and attempting to be a shining light in this lost and dying world. Praise the holy name of Jesus!
Shinning Light
Jesus said you are the light of the world,
Some people wonder how this can be.
Your joy, peace, love, and compassion,
Causes the darkness to flee.
Commit yourself to prayer and service,
Position yourself at the center of God’s will.
Your light will then shine in the darkness,
Like a city upon a hill.
Get involved in someone’s life,
Let them know that their no bother.
The power that causes your light to shine,
Emanates from God the Father.
Don’t get boastful and full of pride,
When you receive praise just wink and nod.
Let your light so shine before men,
That they may see your good works and glorify God.
