Be Holy

17 December 2022
Isaiah 55:10-11 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

I’m not sure if I’m a masochist, or just someone who is a real glutton for punishment. It seems that throughout my Christian life, God has always given me the tough cases, even though my wife was diagnosed with MS shortly after we were married, and her condition over the years has steadily worsened. Let me just give you two examples of what I’m talking about. Early on in my Christian life I became involved with a homebound individual, who I later learned, was addicted to prescription medications. I worked with this lady for seven years, before changing to a different church. At the end of that seven years, I did not feel that I had made any progress what so ever in this lady’s life. I remember telling my wife, that if 100 clowns went into this ladies house, they would all leave sobbing and crying, because this lady would absolutely suck everything right out of them. The second example is a lady I worked with for seven years, that I poured my heart and soul into. I had known for a long time that she was a sociopath, but that did not deter me. This person broke off the relationship after realizing that the only future benefit for her would be spiritual, instead of monetary. So in both of these cases, I felt like a failure, until God brought the verses referenced above to mind. I realized, that I simply did what God would have me to do, and like the verses indicates above, God will/has obtained the desired result. In the midst of it all, I also kept remembering God’s command to, be holy for I am holy. Jesus is not willing that any should perish. Praise the holy name of Jesus!

Be Holy

Gird up the loins of your mind,

And focus on the gifts God gave to you.

Call upon the Holy Spirit,

To direct your ways in all you do.

This world of darkness snares the lamb,

Who strays for the lure of his former lust,

Call out to the Shepherd who guards the flock,

Place in Him your hope and trust.

We were called by a holy God,

To be obedient and serve Him solely.

We must forsake the call of the world,

And commit ourselves to a life that is holy.

In this way we honor our Lord,

Who’s with us in plenty and in flood.

We were not purchased with corruptible things,

But by His precious holy blood.
